The Edinburgh based Green Investment Bank has officially opened for business with an £8 million investment in an anaerobic digestion project (AD) in Teesside and a £15 million investment in an industrial energy saving retrofit project.
According to the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS), construction of the AD plant at Teesside is the first of six such projects planned by the developer over the next five years.
Greensphere has partnered with biogas and biofuel specialist, Earthly Energy on the 5.1 MW project, and plans the further facilities to be located in Cleveland, Lancashire, South Wales, Devon and Kent.
Together the six planned sites would process some 550,000 tons of biowastes and generate around 30 MW of energy...
